Air traffic management services include, amongst others: air traffic control, flight information, search and rescue operations, and North Atlantic communication.
Safe and efficient
Over 300 air traffic controllers work for the AirNav Ireland in Dublin and Shannon, and 50 radio operators work in Ballygirreen. Together, they ensure the safe and efficient flow of air traffic. This is achieved with important aids such as radar, radio and aviation systems on board and on the ground.
The challenge
At MEP, we never shy away from deadlines. The same was true when we were commissioned to deliver a new emergency system within a few months. In addition, AirNav Ireland asked MEP to develop a specific design for the operator consoles. The customised console was delivered and fully installed within the given deadline. The console and screen were produced in collaboration with the air traffic controllers.
The result
The newly designed emergency system automatically protects all transmitters and receivers. All workstations have access to all radio channels. The workstations were entirely redesigned according to the needs and preferences of the AirNav Ireland. The user interface can be implemented flexibly with 2 HMI Gridgui. In 2014, Irish air traffic controllers and Radio operators cleared 530,000 flights within Irish airspace.
